Kalshi Odds Guide & How to Read Kalshi Forecasts for 2026: Expert Tips on Decoding Event Market Odds

Updated Sep 29, 2026 •
Share
Positive Aspects
  • Extensive range of prediction markets
  • Easy-to-use website and app
  • Clear trading rules and settlement terms
  • Rewards are available
Negative Aspects
  • Not available in every country

Although we hear people talking about ‘Kalshi odds’ it’s not really the correct way to describe the implied probabilities that are an integral part of prediction markets. Our guide will explain how event contracts work and how to trade them.

We’ll take a look at the various types of prediction markets available at Kalshi and examine a few event contracts. After that we’ll use an example to show you the features Kalshi provides to help you make accurate predictions. We’ll also take a look at a few other aspects of Kalshi such as the prediction markets and cryptocurrencies accepted.

What can you find at Kalshi?

Once you’ve opened a Kalshi account and completed the required KYC verification, you can begin trading. There is no fixed minimum deposit at Kalshi for opening an account. The amount needed depends on how much you plan to trade. It is also best to check the site to see the applicable promotions in your region.

Eligible event categories may count toward qualifying trades, but promotional requirements can vary. If a Kalshi referral code was used during signup, check the applicable referral terms to confirm whether referral credits or specific trades qualify toward the promotion.

Keep the promotion’s expiry date in mind if the offer includes one. Event contracts can cost between $0.01 and $0.99, so the amount and number of trades needed to meet a qualifying requirement will depend on the contracts selected.

A quick overview of Kalshi’s prediction markets

Kalshi offers prediction markets for six main categories, with hundreds of live events in each.

  • Sports
  • Cryptocurrencies
  • Culture
  • Politics
  • Economics
  • Climate

With a selection like that you are almost certain to find an event that you have some personal interest in. Understandably, sports events are incredibly popular, as are Kalshi’s Bitcoin prediction markets.

Culture is also a top choice for traders as it covers a vast range of different media, and as the weather has been quite unusual recently, climate is a fairly hot topic too. In the table below we’ll give you an example from each of Kalshi’s prediction market categories to provide some context.

How event contracts work

We’ve shown you some examples of the event contracts you might find within each category. Now it’s time to take a look at one specific example, and we’ve selected an event that’s currently live the political category:

“Will Trump attend the World Cup Final?”

The current implied probabilities are ‘Yes’ 92% and ‘No’ 8% which means that 92% of those who have bought contracts believe president Trump will attend the event. The percentages also indicate the price per contract.

The contract will be resolved on 19 July, 2026, which is the date the World Cup Final will be played. Trump doesn’t need to stay for the entire match for a Yes prediction to be correct, he just needs to turn up. The official resolution sources for this event include a variety of trusted media including the New York Times, and several major broadcasting companies.

For every correctly predicted event contract, the Kalshi payout is $1.00, less applicable fees. There is a document in the brand’s Help Center which explains the precise equation used to calculate fees, but generally speaking you can expect to pay approximately 2% per event contract.

Price fluctuation

The event we’ve used as an example opened in January this year, and the implied probabilities have changed numerous times since. This can be seen on the graph provided, which indicates that a Yes contract initially cost $0.76, but dropped to $0.62 at one point.

Fluctuations like this are caused by changes in market sentiment, and contracts being bought or sold. That’s why trading event contracts carries an element of risk. Although it is possible to make a profit if the value of your contracts goes up, they can go down just as easily.

What changes for Kalshi traders in the US?

In the US, Kalshi is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and operates as a Designated Contract Market (DCM). This means eligible US traders can access the platform under the applicable US regulatory framework, although specific eligibility requirements and market availability can still vary.

There is also a US version of the Kalshi app for iOS and Android, giving traders another way to access the platform on mobile devices. Event contracts are also available through the Kalshi website, with markets covering areas such as sports, politics, economics, culture, climate, and cryptocurrencies.

Pros and cons of trading at Kalshi

Positive Aspects
  • A range of prediction market categories
  • Useful trading features
  • Event contracts cover a variety of real-world topics
Negative Aspects
  • Market and feature availability can vary by location

Summing up implied probability for prediction markets

Now that you’ve read our guide, you can see why it’s not appropriate to describe the implied probabilities for Kalshi’s prediction markets as ‘odds’. As we’ve demonstrated, each event contract represents user opinions, which do change over time in accordance with market sentiment, and external factors.

Provided you understand that concept, and also understand that the value of any event contracts you purchase can go down just as easily as they can go up, then you are good to go. Any of the links on our page banners will take you straight to Kalshi, and you can take it from there.

Kalshi prediction markets FAQs

What is the minimum age to sign up at Kalshi?

You must be at least 18 years old to open an account at Kalshi and trade event contracts. Also, part of the registration process requires an identity check, so you will need to provide an official photo ID document and proof of your permanent address.

Do I have to pay fees if my contracts are unsuccessful?

No. Kalshi only applies fees to successful contracts, which are calculated after each event ends and an official resolution is announced. Kalshi uses a specific calculation for fees, which will vary between different contracts, but the average is approximately 2% per contract.

How is the result of an event contract determined at Kalshi?

It depends on the event and the specific market rules. Each Kalshi contract states the criteria and source used to determine its outcome. For example, cryptocurrency markets use CF Benchmarks Real-Time Index data, while sports markets use the official sources specified in their individual contract rules.
